Savannah, Ga. – On Tuesday, January 26 during the monthly meeting of the Chatham Area Transit Board of Directors, the Board voted to terminate the contract of Chief Executive Officer Bacarra Mauldin, effective immediately.
The Board went into closed executive session to discuss personnel matters related to Mauldin. Following the executive session, the Board voted 6-3 to end Mauldin’s employment.
“In general, the Board had lost confidence in Mrs. Mauldin’s ability to lead the agency,” said CAT Board Chairman Deidrick Cody. “It is unfortunate that this is the outcome of this situation, but I want to assure CAT employees, our riders and the community that this Board is committed to moving CAT forward in a positive way.”
Chairman Cody says the Board did not make the decision to terminate Mauldin lightly. The CAT Board is addressing the concerns of its employees, stakeholders, and the community. In a letter to the CAT staff, Chairman Cody informed the staff that the decision will not alter the Board’s commitment to the community. He also shared that within the next few weeks, the Board’s immediate goals are to stabilize the organization, re-establish trust in the community, and with employees and riders.
The Board has appointed CAT’s Chief Administrative Officer David Stearns as Acting CEO until they choose an Interim CEO.
