CAT Conducts Ride-Along with Port Wentworth Ahead of Board Vote

Chatham Area Transit (CAT) recently hosted an immersive ride-along tour for Port Wentworth’s Council and staff, providing an up-close look at the proposed service expansion route. The excursion brought together CAT Board members, staff, council members, and chamber of commerce representatives from Port Wentworth, marking a collaborative effort to enhance public transportation in the region.

The proposed service expansion will include two Fixed-Route buses, extending Route 3B, operating seven days a week on a sixty-minute frequency. This transformative initiative aims to connect key areas, including Old Port Wentworth on S. Coastal Highway, International Trade Parkway, I-95/Augusta Rd., Wood Meadow Apartments, and Rice Hope.

Port Wentworth officials expressed their enthusiasm for the proposed expansion, emphasizing its positive impact on the community.

“This is a historic and exciting initiative for Port Wentworth.  Our city’s partnership with Chatham Area Transit to expand services into Port Wentworth enhances the quality of life and employment opportunities for residents and future residents as our community continues to grow and we see more choosing Port Wentworth to live, experience and thrive,” said Steve Davis, City Manager.
