Officials at Chatham Area Transit Authority (CAT) announce the discontinuation of bus Route #75 Prowler. The Board voted to accept staff recommendation on Tuesday, January 24th based on months of monitoring ridership, analysis of impact, and discussions with the public to gather feedback. The discontinuation will be effective February 13, 2017.
The Prowler, one of CAT’s two late-night weekend services (the other one is the City-sponsored free Liberty St. Parking Shuttle) began in 2011 as an eastside safe ride for Savannah State students and others who wanted to go downtown without driving. Over the years, the service has shown a steady decline in the number of passengers using it, making it no longer sustainable. The discontinuation of this route will result in savings of about $29,000 for the remainder of the budget year, and will allow CAT to improve efficiencies elsewhere in the system.
