CAT will provide free rides on Saturday, March 14 & Tuesday, March 17

Savannah, Ga. – Chatham Area Transit will provide free service on Saturday, March 14 and on St. Patrick’s Day, Tuesday, March 17 as part of agreement with City of Savannah.

The transit agency will not provide special shuttle services to downtown on St. Patrick’s Day as a result of the decision to cancel the parade and to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) but CAT will now operate its buses, CAT Mobility vehicles, and water ferries on the regular weekday schedule on St. Patrick’s Day. Regular service routes and schedules also will be in place through the weekend, March 13-15, following the cancellation of the Festival of St. Patrick.

CAT services will still be free on Saturday and on St. Patrick’s Day even with the cancellations of the events per the service agreement with the city of Savannah.

CAT understands that employees and customers may have concerns about the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). To help prevent the spread of the virus, CAT recommends customers and employees follow the below recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Georgia Department of Public Health:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

CAT has posted information, distributed internal communications and created a web page, www.catchacat.org/media/coronavirus-covid-19-information/, regarding hand washing techniques and coronavirus FAQs. Staff has also set up additional hand sanitizing stations for employees. In addition, we will be taking extra precautionary measures using cleaning materials recommended by the CDC to ensure proper antibacterial content is used for cleaning our facilities and transit vehicles.
