Chatham Area Transit Board Approves “CAT to the Polls” Initiative for Election Day

10/22/2024 – The Chatham Area Transit (CAT) Board of Directors has unanimously approved the “CAT To the Polls” initiative, offering zero-fare public transportation across all routes on Election Day, Nov. 5, and during the General Runoff, Dec. 3.

“Our Board is dedicated to fostering community engagement, and providing zero-fare rides to the polls is a direct investment in enhancing civic participation by ensuring accessibility as a right,” said Deidrick Cody, Chairman of the CAT Board of Directors.

The zero-fare service will apply to both CAT’s Fixed-Route and Paratransit services, running from 5:00 a.m. to 10:15 p.m., connecting riders to voting locations across the area.

“CAT to the Polls is about empowering the community by ensuring that transportation is not a barrier to citizens exercising their fundamental right to vote,” said Stephanie Cutter, CAT’s Interim Executive Director/CEO. “On Election Day, we want the only decision people have to make to be who they will vote for, not how they will get there.”
