Savannah, Ga. – Electronic gadgets, glittering jewelry and bestselling novels may be appreciated during the holiday season, but the gift of public transportation really moves people.
With bus fares as low as $1.50, Chatham Area Transit provides an affordable stocking stuffer that family and friends can use to get around and avoid the headache of dealing with rush-hour traffic or trying to find a parking space.
CAT also provides the low-cost Airport Express shuttle service to and from the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport for those leaving for the holidays or expecting visitors.
And following the recent launch of CAT’s online sales site, bus passes can now be purchased with a few clicks of a mouse and mailed directly to the home of a loved one. All of CAT’s passes are available to buy, so purchases can cover the costs of someone’s bus ride for a day, week, month or more. Ticket books also can be purchased online for users of CAT Mobility, a reservation-based paratransit service for people with disabilities who cannot ride the fixed-route buses.
With roots dating back to Savannah’s first electric streetcars in the late-19th century, CAT has a long history of helping people get to their destinations. Now with 2020 on the horizon, CAT encourages area residents and visitors to be a part of that continuing tradition in the years ahead.
CAT passes may be purchased online at pass.catchacat.org or at the Joe Murray Rivers, Jr. Intermodal Transit Center, 610 W. Oglethorpe Avenue.
